OLDE BELSTONE – Photographs from the Archive

posted in: Archived News | 0

The oldest document in the Belstone Community Archive, concerning tin mining at Taw Marsh, dates from 1487.  Among this year’s acquisitions are a series of atmospheric photos of Belstone folk taken by Ellie Cox.  These, and many other archive images from the years inbetween, will be shown in Belstone Village Hall on Friday 17 November.

Chris Walpole’s illustrated talk Olde Belstone will show how key areas of the parish have developed and changed between the 1842 tithe map and the present day.  Faces from the past will be seen again, their stories linked to their homes and the moorland around them.  Bringing us up to date there will also be a montage or two of recent events so that we can all recognise ourselves as history in the making.

The show starts at 7.30pm with refreshments served in the interval.  Admission is free, with donations invited at the end for Hall funds.
