LOCAL DEMOCRACY IN BELSTONE

Would you like to represent the community’s views in Belstone, do your bit in looking after the local infrastructure, or undertake a project for the good of the village?  Well now is your opportunity.

The present Parish Council finishes it’s four year term of office at the commencement of the campaigning period leading up to the elections for District, Town and Parish Councils on 2nd May this year.  That means that the seven seats on Belstone Parish Council will be open for candidate nominations from Friday 22nd March, with the deadline for submission of the paperwork at the Tavistock offices of West Devon Borough Council, (in person – postal submissions will be deemed invalid) on 3rd April at 4pm.

There has not been a Parish Council election in this village since the mid 1980s, over 30 years ago.  Indeed it has sometimes been the case that Parish Councillors have had to be co-opted on as not enough people put themselves forward for election at the appropriate time – there are two co-optees on the current Council.

If you are interested in standing for the Parish Council and want more information on the process involved, please contact Kate Little, Parish Clerk on parishclerk@belstonevillage.net or 01837 840307.  The nominations papers will be available from Kate, from 1st March.
