On Sunday 13th August, 2023 St Mary’s Church, Belstone celebrated our Matronal Festival and were fortunate to have Jim Causley join us to take part in the service and to sing his song “The Archangel’s Way”.
The song was written by Jim to commemorate the launch of the Pilgrimage Route “The Archangel’s Way” which took place on Saturday 31 July 2021, in Belstone – the central point. The 39 mile route around the northern edge of Dartmoor goes between the church of St Michael at Brentor and St Michael the Archangel, Chagford, visiting the various churches, chapels and communities along the route – Lydford, Sourton, Belstone, Sticklepath, South Tawton, South Zeal, Throwleigh, Forder, Wonson, Providence, Gidleigh and Murchington.
Jim set himself the target of singing his special song in each of the churches involved and was thus able to enhance our Matronal Service here in Belstone and, thanks to John Moppett, we have a YouTube video of Jim singing his song in our church.
