“Jupiter and Saturn were clearly visible to the naked eye, close together and low down in the western sky, three quarters of an hour after sunset on Christmas Eve when these photos were taken from the top of Watchet Hill. The Great Conjuction of the two planets was actually three days earlier, but this was the first time skies had cleared since then in our part of the world. I wasn’t the only planet-watcher, with torchlights visible high on Belstone Tor (you can see distant figures silhouetted on one of the photos) and on the slopes of Cosdon. The two planets should show up in the Watchet Hill flagpole photo, Jupiter much brighter than Saturn (which is slightly below and to the right of Jupiter), both close together in the right centre of the photo.” Chris Walpole
