Polling Day Information
The key dates are:
- Register to vote – before 11:59 p.m. on Tuesday 18 June
- Register online at UK Gov website
- It only takes five minutes. You will be asked for their National Insurance number (but they can still register if they do not have one).
- Vote by post – Deadline for applications is before 5 p.m. on Wednesday 19 June
- Apply to vote by post on Electoral commission website
- if you can’t get to the polling station on polling day, you can vote by post.
- Vote by proxy?
- Deadline for applications is before 5 p.m. on Wednesday 26 June
- Apply to vote by proxy on the electoral commission website
- you can ask someone you trust to cast your vote on your behalf if they’re unavailable to vote.
- Photo ID is essential to vote in any election.
- If you don’t have any photo ID
- Apply for a Voter Authority Certificate – Deadline for applications is before 5 p.m. on Wednesday 26 June
- apply for free voter ID on the electoral commission website
- If you don’t have any accepted photo ID, you can apply for a free voter ID document, which is known as a Voter Authority Certificate.
- Changes to voting for British citizens living overseas
- The 15 year limit on voting rights for has now been removed. The registration period has been extended to three years. This means that overseas voters will only need to register to vote every three years.

S106 allocations
WDBC allocated tens of thousands of pounds in Section 106 funds recently – including a recent allocation of around £78,000 of funds towards projects in Okehampton. |
The projects we’re supporting in Okehampton include: Okehampton Town Council – Upgrade of existing BMX area to form pump track – £38,907.59 Okehampton Table Tennis Club – Repairs to the roof of the table tennis club building – £10,000 Okehampton Community and Recreation Association and Dartmoor Multi-Academy Trust – Upgraded floodlights for all-weather pitch and improved access pathway – £10,000 Okehampton Simmons Bowls Club – Reconfiguration of changing rooms and toilets at Okehampton Simmons Bowls Club – £12,500 Okehampton Squash Club – Improvements to club facilities and member experience – £6,500 In Tavistock, two projects we’ve supported with S106 funding are coming to fruition. On Saturday morning, Tavistock Athletic Club are having an unofficial ‘opening’ of their resurfaced athletics track on the Tavistock College site, with the return of their Tavy 5k race. We’ve provided £36,010.36 towards the refurbishment of the track; the total project cost is around £150,000 and funding contributions have also been made by other partners as well as the club themselves. The renewal of the Bannawell Street play area is also almost complete. The official opening of the play area is likely to take place at the end of July – local members will be kept informed. We allocated £59,559 to Tavistock Town Council for the project, with the town council putting in a further £25,000 themselves. In Crapstone, we’ve awarded £21,354 to Buckland Monachorum Parish Council for improvements to play facilities at Seaton Way. The total project cost is between £50,000 and £60,000, and the parish council has also secured £20,000 in National Lottery community funding towards the project. Buckland Monachorum Cricket Club (who are also located in Crapstone) have been awarded £26,779 to go towards a non-turf pitch, grounds maintenance machinery and furniture and fittings for their pavilion. The total cost is around £38,000 with around £5,000 coming from the club and £7,000 from Devon Cricket. Finally in Lifton, we’ve awarded around £21,968 to go towards the removal of old monkey bars and installation of a new multi-activity unit in the play area at the QE11 Recreation Ground.
