Skaigh Wood Trust – Chair’s report 25/26

Annual report of Skaigh Wood Trust – year to 31/3/2026

Chair of Trustees’ report

The Trust’s main work over the past year was the appointment of a new tenant for Skaigh Warren, Stuart Luxton having decided to relinquish the lease.  George Jefferey from South Zeal took a new grass sale agreement starting March 2026.  The Common rights attached to this land are now held by the Trust and will bring in some extra income.

The storms over the winter period caused damage to the trees over the public footpaths and works have been undertaken to make them safe.

Patches of Japanese knotweed along the riverbank have been treated at a cost of £300.  This may need to be repeated.

STOC have helped with various jobs on the footpaths and other work including Balsam clearing.

It was suggested that information boards be placed at various points, but this has now been amended to the possible production of leaflets.

The footbridge has been inspected and once again found sound.

The insurance with the NFU has been paid and the rent from the grass sale received.

Thanks to Chris Walpole for auditing the accounts and to my fellow Trustees for their interest and help in all aspects of the Wood and Warren.  Also, to Jon Pike for his work as Secretary to the Trust.

MWJ Ash, Chair of Trustees.  20/4/2026
