I expect many people saw and heard the two strange machines flying over the village this afternoon. Here’s a few photos that I took from the cricket ground as they disturbed my pitch rolling. Looking like giant drones, they were tilt-rotor Bell Boeing V22 Osprey hybrid helicopters/aeroplanes, presumably belonging to the US Air Force and probably based at RAF Mildenhall in Suffolk. Their rotors were spinning horizontally when I took the photos but when I saw them again an hour later the whole assembly had turned through 90 degrees and they were spinning like a conventional aircraft.
