APM – Report of DNPA Park Ranger
A summary of Kit Hancock’s verbal annual review for DNPA:-
The area Kit covers is from South Tawton to Peter Tavy
Works the year include: –
Bridleway 1 – Gate repair
Bridleway 8 – 2 x new gates
Footpath 5 – storm damage repair (with additional thanks to STOC)
Footpath 6
Test digs undertaken / overseen revealed the new hut circle remains in Taw Marsh
Bylaws – there were in excess of 1,400 infringements across the Park in the year, 6 of which were in the Parish of Belstone, mainly at Culliver Steps involving, fires, camping and mountain biking
The general wild camping law case against Dartmoor landowners remains ongoing
There have been 11 cattle attacks resulting in serious injuries with Belstone considered a hot spot, especially in Taw Marsh area. DNPA are working with the Commoner’s Associations on a suitable strategy
The yellow plastic signs are considered temporary, some are seasonal only but the aim longer term is to replace all with wooden signage in accordance with policy
